Brief Rant:
My number has a 7 where tech supports has a 1.
Wrong numbers man. All the damn time.
It's gotten to the point where if you call my office phone the first thing my voicemail says is "this is not tech support" Ha!

It's entirely plausible that the inability to differentiate a 1 from a 7 is what is causing the calls to IT in the first place.

User error is a cruel mistress. Great job security, but a wee bit frustrating.

The best part is when they don't believe they have the wrong numbers.
Me: "This isn't tech support you have the wrong number"
Them: "No I don't"
Me: "Yes you do"
Them: "No I don't"
Me "Okay fine. It's the right number. Your move"
Them "....."
Me: *click*

I once had a woman call my cell phone and then spend ten minutes arguing with me that I didn't know my own phone number and that I must have just gotten a new phone number because she clearly called her daughter. At that point I had the number for 7 or 8 years.
In another incident I had a guy leave me voicemails trying to talk to his ex for three weekends in a row. Each one was more desperate than the last.
